Problems opening PDF files
The File Opens, But the Screen Is Blank
There is no single, ideal solution to this problem; however, we have discovered some workarounds that appear to be effective. Adobe has also posted valuable technical assistance documents in their online knowledgebase, both for Netscape Navigator and for Internet Explorer and AOL. This is a problem that affects many people, not just eDOC recipients.
POSSIBLE OPTIONS:
1) Try a different browser – If you have more than one installed on your computer
2) Clear your browsers cache before trying to open the PDF
3) Upgrade to the latest browser and Adobe Acrobat Reader
4) Open a new browser window for each PDF
a. After opening the first PDF file and before you open another PDF file, close your current browser session down and then reopen the browser. Locate and open the PDF file - it should open successfully.
5) Save the File and Read It in Adobe Acrobat
1. Once the .PDF document is loaded, and the filename is displayed in the browser's Location or Address bar, click "File" on the browser's menu bar at the top of the screen, then click "Save As."
2. The name of the file you are trying to display (e.g., "boulder-co.pdf") should be displayed on the line labeled "File Name."
3. Save the file in whatever folder you like, and note its location.
4. Now, from your Start Menu or from an icon on your Windows desktop, open the Adobe Acrobat Reader and click "File" and then "Open."
5. Locate the name of the .PDF file you just saved, click on it, and then click "OK."
6. The file should display properly.
OR
1. Right mouse click (or click + Option for Macintosh) on the name of the file you wish to download.
2. Click the option 'Save Target As...' - the 'File Download' window will appear followed by the 'Save As' window. Save the PDF to a directory on your computer.
3. Once the file has downloaded, 'double click' the PDF file to launch the file with Adobe Acrobat Reader
Many people believe that there is some sort of sporadic incompatibility between the Adobe plug-in for web browsers and the actual browser software. We have noticed, for example, that when you try to open or download a .PDF file using the browser plug-in, the browser does not always download the entire file to your computer. Sometimes, the first PDF file will open without problems but when trying to open a second PDF file a blank browser window appears.
The bottom line is that some users have problems, while for others it's never an issue. The workarounds described above should be effective because they don't rely on the Adobe plug-in, but rather use the actual Adobe Acrobat Reader, to display the file.
These options represent the best we could find regarding this problem that seems to affect many people around the world. They are in no way guaranteed to work. You should also consult your IT support before making any major modifications to your computer. You may search the Web for more solutions if these do not help or contact us for alternate ways of receiving your documents.
